[Carslile, Pa.] James "Mac" Macdonald, founder of M&Z Carpet and Flooring, passed away on Thursday, May 11. He was 93 years old.
Macdonald was born in Waltham, Mass. on December 6, 1923. He graduated from Waltham High School in 1941, and immediately followed his three older brothers to support the WWII war effort.
Macdonald began an upholstery business upon returning from WW II with his former partner, Lawrence Zell (the “Z” in M&Z). M&Z expanded to 3 stores located in Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, and Harrisburg. The business is now run by his son Steven Macdonald. His two other sons, Jim and Ted, work in the stores as well.
Macdonald is survived by his wife of 72 years, Veryl, and his children: Sue, Terry, Wendy, James Macdonald II, Ted, and Steve. He is also survived by two sisters, 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
